Hi, I’m Dr. April Ulmer—pediatric gastroenterologist, soccer mom, and the proud founder of Project Further.

After two decades of private practice and raising two daughters in a state with limited access to elite soccer opportunities, I saw a critical gap: talented young girls from smaller markets were being overlooked—not because they lacked skill, but because they lacked access. That realization lit a fire in me.  I created Project Further as more than a podcast—it’s a platform, a pathway, and a personal mission. It’s for the players who are putting in the work but don’t have the networks. For the parents searching for answers. For the coaches who believe potential shouldn’t be limited by zip code. And for every girl who dreams big, even when her resources feel small.  This isn’t just about sports—it’s about equity, exposure, and empowerment. As a physician, I’ve spent my career advocating for children’s health. Now, I’m expanding that advocacy into the world of youth sports—where wellness, opportunity, and visibility intersect. Project Further is where stories are shared, resources are unlocked, and dreams start to feel a little more reachable. We’re not just talking about getting seen—we’re talking about going FURTHER!

As an experienced Former Division I Assistant Coach, Former NJCAA Assistant Coach, Former Sport Scientist for numerous NWSL and MLS teams, USYNT and Jamaica National Team, Coach Walker specializes in providing purpose-driven training that not only develops technical skill and game IQ, but also helps athletes understand who they are, what they want, and how to get there.  As a former professional player and Founder of Two Truths Training with over a decade of Collegiate coaching experience, his elite, soccer-specific training curriculum is designed to develop the complete athlete, on and off the field.
